Photo Upload Tips

Get the Best Print From Your Favourite Memory

Your photo is the heart of your personalised AMRU magnet.

The better the image you upload, the better your finished magnet can look. This guide will help you choose the right photo before placing your order.

1. Use the Original Photo Whenever Possible

For the clearest print result, upload the original image file from your phone, camera or computer.

Original photos usually contain more detail than:

  • screenshots
  • social-media downloads
  • images sent repeatedly through messaging apps
  • heavily compressed copies

If you have both an original image and a screenshot of the same photo, always choose the original.

2. Choose a Clear, Sharp Image

Before uploading, zoom into your photo and check whether the important parts still look clear.

A good photo should have:

  • clear faces
  • visible details
  • good focus
  • minimal blur
  • enough light

Avoid images that are heavily blurred or pixelated.

3. Higher Resolution Is Better

High-resolution images generally produce better printing results.

Photos taken directly with a modern smartphone or digital camera are usually suitable when the original file is used.

Avoid very small images copied from websites or social media.

If an image looks blurry when enlarged on your phone, it may also appear less detailed when printed.

4. Use JPG, JPEG or PNG Files

For a simple and reliable upload experience, we recommend:

JPG / JPEG
or
PNG

These formats are commonly used for photographs and work well for photo printing.

If your image is in another format, convert or save a copy as JPG or PNG before uploading where possible.

5. Choose the Right Orientation

Your AMRU photo magnet measures:

65mm × 90mm

Because the magnet is rectangular, photographs with a similar portrait-style composition usually fit most naturally.

A vertical photo can work especially well for:

  • couples
  • individuals
  • children
  • pets
  • family portraits

Horizontal photographs may need to be cropped to fit the magnet area.

Before submitting, check the preview carefully if a crop or preview option is available.

6. Keep Important Details Away From the Edges

When photos are prepared for printing, a small amount near the outer edges may sometimes be cropped.

For this reason, avoid placing important elements too close to the edge of your image.

Try to keep:

  • faces
  • names
  • dates
  • important objects
  • logos

toward the centre or comfortably inside the image.

This helps reduce the chance of important details being cut off.

7. Give Faces Enough Space

Photos with faces positioned very close to the top, bottom or sides can be difficult to crop properly.

For the best result, choose an image where there is a little space around the subject.

For example, a family photo showing everyone comfortably within the frame will usually work better than a tightly cropped screenshot.

8. Good Lighting Makes a Difference

Choose a photo that is bright enough to clearly see the subject.

Natural light often produces excellent results.

Avoid images that are:

  • extremely dark
  • heavily shadowed
  • badly overexposed
  • washed out
  • taken in very poor lighting

Remember that printing cannot restore detail that does not exist in the original photo.

9. Avoid Heavy Filters

Strong filters may look attractive on a phone screen but can sometimes change the way colours appear when printed.

For a natural result, we recommend using:

  • the original photo
  • lightly edited photos
  • balanced colour and brightness

Avoid excessive sharpening, extreme colour filters or very heavy contrast where possible.

10. Avoid Screenshots When You Have the Original

Screenshots often have lower usable image quality than the original photograph.

Instead of taking a screenshot from:

  • Instagram
  • Facebook
  • WhatsApp
  • your phone gallery

locate the original photo file and upload that version.

This can significantly improve print clarity.

11. Messaging Apps Can Reduce Photo Quality

Some messaging apps compress images when they are sent.

This means a photo received through a messaging app may contain less detail than the original.

If possible, ask the person who owns the original image to send it in its highest available quality or as the original file.

12. Check the Photo Before Uploading

Before you submit your order, quickly ask yourself:

  • Is the photo clear?
  • Are the important faces in focus?
  • Is the image bright enough?
  • Is there enough space around the subject?
  • Is this the highest-quality version I have?
  • Are important details away from the edges?

If the answer is yes, you're ready to upload.

13. Photos With Text, Dates or Logos

If your image already contains text, names, dates or a logo, make sure these elements are:

  • large enough to read
  • clear
  • not positioned against the extreme edge
  • high enough resolution

Very small text may become difficult to read when reduced to a 65mm × 90mm magnet.

14. Group Photos

For family and group photographs, select images where everyone's face is clearly visible.

Avoid very wide group photographs containing many people if each person appears extremely small.

Because the finished magnet is compact, simpler compositions usually produce a stronger result.

15. Pet Photos

Pet photographs make excellent personalised magnets.

For the best result:

  • choose a sharp image of your pet's face
  • avoid motion blur
  • use good lighting
  • keep ears and other important features away from the edge

A clean portrait-style pet photo usually works beautifully.

16. Couple and Family Photos

For romantic, family and celebration magnets, photos with subjects positioned close together generally work well.

These are particularly suitable for:

  • Valentine's Day
  • anniversaries
  • weddings
  • Mother's Day
  • Father's Day
  • birthdays
  • Christmas gifts

Choose a photo that captures the memory clearly rather than simply choosing the newest photo on your phone.

17. Baby and Childhood Photos

When using baby or childhood photographs, try to choose the clearest original version available.

Older photographs that have been scanned may also work, but scan them at a good quality rather than photographing a printed photo from far away.

18. Old Printed Photos

If your favourite memory exists only as a printed photograph, you can digitise it first.

For better results:

  • use a scanner if available
  • scan at a good resolution
  • keep the photograph flat
  • avoid reflections
  • remove dust before scanning

If using a phone camera instead, place the photo in bright, even lighting and hold the camera directly above it.

19. Different Photos for Multiple Magnets

If you are ordering multiple copies using the same photo, select the required quantity after uploading your image.

If you want magnets using different photographs, add each personalised photo separately to your cart unless the product page specifically allows multiple different uploads in one order.

This helps ensure every photo is correctly matched with the required quantity.

20. Bulk Orders

AMRU offers bulk pricing for larger quantities.

1–9 magnets: $6 each

10+ magnets: $5 each

Standard delivery: $10 per order

If you're ordering magnets for:

  • birthdays
  • weddings
  • party favours
  • baby announcements
  • save-the-dates
  • corporate promotions

prepare your photographs before starting the order process to make uploading easier.

21. Colour Differences Can Occur

Photos may look slightly different when printed compared with how they appear on a phone or computer screen.

This can happen because screens produce colour using light, while printing uses physical inks and materials.

Small differences in:

  • brightness
  • colour
  • contrast

can therefore occur.

Using a clear, natural-looking original image usually gives the best starting point.

22. What If My Photo Is Too Low Quality?

If your image is extremely blurry, very small or heavily pixelated, choose another version if possible.

Look for:

  • the original photo
  • a copy from another device
  • a higher-resolution version
  • a version sent without heavy compression

If the memory is important and no better version exists, you may still upload it, but the finished print quality will depend on the quality of the source image.

23. Protecting Your Photo

Your uploaded photo is required to create your personalised product.

Only upload images that you have permission to use.

Avoid uploading content that belongs to another person or organisation unless you have the necessary permission.

Please also review our Privacy Policy for information about how customer information and uploaded files are handled.
